Winter Events at Priest Lake
February 3, 2015The long winter months bring a thick blanket of snow to Elkin’s Resort in beautiful Idaho. During this time of the year you will find many events taking place that are unique to the Priest Lake area.
One of the largest events is the Snowfest Nordic and Snowshoe Race. This event takes place in the middle of January at Priest Lake Golf Course Nordic Center. True grits and determination will help get you through this marathon. The event is broken down into four different races. The largest of which is a 10k Nordic ski event. Other events include a 5k Nordic ski and a 5k snowshoe run.
An event that has been growing in popularity in Priest Lake has been snowshoe softball. Yes, you heard right, snowshoe softball. Spread over three weekends in January and February, the Snowshoe Softball Tournament is a tradition at Priest Lake. Played like traditional softball, snowshoe softball is a unique twist to the game where players wear snowshoes instead of baseball cleats.
Last but certainly not least is the Priest Lake Sled Dog Race, also known as the US Pacific Coast Championship. This event kicks off the first weekend of February and features both mid distance and sprint classes. Those who have competed say the race is a rush unlike any other. These sleds will travel up to 20mph with teams covering nearly 20+ miles a day.
