Spring into Fun at Priest Lake
Though we do love our winter activities around here, we must admit we’re excited about spring and all the fun things the new season brings! As Idaho’s “crown jewel”, Priest Lake is a great spot to enjoy the warmer months and soak up the sun on your next vacation. So, if you are looking for a few Priest Lake activities we have some that we think you will enjoy!
Hiking
Hit the trails at Priest Lake and discover the beauty of Mother Nature. With a wide variety, from beginner easy access trails to advanced backcountry trails, this is a mecca for those who want to get out and explore the pristine beauty of the area. You can explore the shores of Priest Lake or head up for panoramic views of the Selkirk Mountains for an exciting outdoor adventure.
Wildlife Viewing
Spring is a great time to view wildlife, as they are typically most active during this time of year. Big game species include the black and grizzly bear, mule deer, moose, elk, and so much more. But also keep your eye out for the little guys, such as snowshoe hares, beavers, and otters. Priest Lake is also a popular place for bird watching as there is a large population of bald eagles and osprey, making this a bird watchers’ paradise.
Golf
Spring is a great time to work on your golf swing. The Priest Lake Golf Course, which will open on May 11th, is a great way to explore the beauty of the area while fitting in a few rounds of golf. This 18-hole championship golf course provides many different levels for anyone who wants to play. And if you just want to work on improving your swing there is a putting green and a driving range for practice.
Biking
All skill levels are welcome to hit the trails with their bike for a little bit more of an action-packed day. Choose to either take a leisurely ride around Priest Lake or dare to climb the peaks on the east side of the lake. With several single-track loops and flatter routes through the forests, there is so much terrain to discover. And with easy access to biking trails like Lakeshore Trail, Elkins Resort is the perfect place to stay during your spring getaway.
Fishing
You don’t need to be a professional angler to catch the variety of fish at Priest Lake. Either just cast in a line downstream at Priest River or head out on the lake where you can hook a cutthroat or even a trout. And if you have your own fishing boat Elkins Resort offers boat slip rentals for your convenience or rent a boat from us to take full advantage of fishing at Priest Lake.
Priest Lake State Park
As one of the best parks in the state, Priest Lake State Park is a conglomerate of three different areas along the east side of Priest Lake. Head to Lionhead for one of the best hikes in the area or take advantage of the warm sandy beaches. Visit Indian Creek to take part in some recreational activities or head out the Priest River at Dickensheet for some great fishing.
Priest Lake Spring Festival
It wouldn’t be springtime at Priest Lake without the Priest Lake Spring Festival. To highlight Idaho’s “crown jewel”, every Memorial Weekend the local community hosts this annual festival to kick off the summer season. With a parade, race, bake sale, pancake breakfast, and a craft fair, this is an event you don’t want to miss! So start planning your trip and book your cabin at the Elkins Resort for a guaranteed fun weekend!
